Mentorship in veterinary medicine is more than a trend, it’s a necessity. The Beyond Medicine Workshop is a virtual 3-hour workshop that highlights the critical role that mentorship plays in fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive environment within veterinary practices, emphasizing that every team member has a unique role to play in the mentorship process. Designed for veterinarians, CrVTs, veterinary assistants, CSRs, practice managers, and anyone who is interested in creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture within their veterinary practices. This workshop will provide valuable insights and practical tools for enhancing mentorship throughout the veterinary profession, by contributing to the growth and success of every team member.

James Desir, DVM

Alyssa Mages, BS, CVT

Alyssa, the Chief Visionary Officer (CVO) at EVT (Empowering Veterinary Teams), directs content development, clinical skills training, and overall company vision. She co-founded EVT to offer training programs, materials, coaching, and learning opportunities for veterinary practices and industry service providers. The EVTeam comprises veterinary professionals, industry leaders, and coaches. 

Alyssa holds a BS in Marine Biology from the University of Rhode Island, transitioning to the veterinary field with an AS in Veterinary Technology from Manor College, earning her CVT credentials. With 18 years of experience, she has held leadership roles including Lead Veterinary Technician, Adjunct Professor, and Education & Development Coordinator. 

Alyssa serves on the Board of Directors for Pawsibilities VetMed, advises BlendVet, and directs MentorVet Tech. She also co-founded and directs Veterinary Strategy for nûrtûr. She has spoken at national conferences, co-authored a guidebook, written a textbook chapter and articles, and been featured on podcasts across North America. 

 

James Desir, DVM

Since graduating from Ross University in 2011 and completing his clinical year at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Vet Med, James has been advancing his medical knowledge through a multitude of general, urgent care and emergency/specialty veterinary hospitals across the United States. James was certified in canine sports medicine (CCRP) from the University of Tennessee in 2013 and is currently working on his MBA through Louisiana State University. He prides himself on promoting an environment for both personal and professional well-being while offering the highest quality of care for his patients. In turn, he hopes to share that knowledge with the veterinary community.
